When my mother handed me the first copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy that I had ever seen, telling me that by the study of it I could learn to follow Jesus and heal the sick, I did not doubt her; and I have since proved her words true. At that time I had worn glasses for eight years, and was also wearing a truss for a rupture. Both were disposed of at once, and have not been needed since. I was soon healed of nose and throat trouble, for which I had had frequent medical treatment without receiving help. Since that time, when applying for a position, I was examined by a physician, who said my eyes were exceptionally good and my nose and throat in good condition.

My next healing was of an abscess on my back, which developed while I was in a boarding school in another city. I was examined by the school physician and nurse, who advised immediate attention, fearing I would not be about for the May Day exercises due in two weeks, in which I had an important part. However, I asked for Christian Science treatment, and had it. Realizing the opposition at the school, I dressed and obtained permission to stay in the suburbs with friends who were Christian Scientists. When I arrived at their house, I was in such a condition that they telephoned to Philadelphia for my sister to come. She came as quickly as possible, and I was at the train to meet her, perfectly well. Needless to say, the nurse at the school was surprised to see me back within a week in fine condition. This was my first treatment by a practitioner. The other healings were accomplished by reading Science and Health.

Not long after this, I was healed of abscessed ears; and a quite noticeable deafness which I had had since childhood has almost entirely disappeared. During an attack of influenza I was brought out of "the valley of the shadow" by the very faithful help of an experienced Christian Scientist, and was able to realize that God is Life and Love and that nothing can separate us from Him. That for which I am most grateful is the overcoming of a very violent temper, which has continually diminished since the first day I started to read Science and Health. Bilious attacks, grippe, and colds, which had been frequent for many years, come seldom now, and are quickly healed.
