Spiritual Understanding
When one has reached the limit of human ability, and no hope from material means and methods is left, "man's extremity" is seen to be "God's opportunity." Christian Science fulfills the Scriptural promise, "I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known." The facts of immortal Mind, as revealed by Christian Science, establish strength and joy in human consciousness.
On page 288 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we read, "Science reveals the glorious possibilities of immortal man, forever unlimited by the mortal senses." Christian Science reveals through spiritual understanding the truth that God is divine Mind, which causes and sustains all true activity. The spiritual universe, including man, represents the plan of God, and is complete. It is perfect, and cannot be changed. Man, in accordance with the purpose and law of divine Mind, manifests the qualities of Mind. He can know and experience only what God ordains; for he is the image or reflection of God. Christian Science demonstrates that there is no law of limitation to repress the true nature of man, which is joyful and intelligent.
The perfection and continuity of being are not supported by the material senses; and the denial of false sense testimony and adherence to the true spiritual viewpoint of life constitute correct thinking. Christian Science shows that one's complete freedom from every phase of the belief of limitation must come about through right thinking; and the field of activity is in his own mentality. John's advice was, "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God." Thoughts that claim to have a place in consciousness should be examined from the standpoint of spiritual understanding. If fear, sin, disease, or poverty claim power to bind or suppress right activity, the spiritual understanding of the nature of God and man will prove that they are the arguments of a false sense of Life, and have no place in true consciousness. If we stick to the spiritual viewpoint that good is infinite and eternal, the very presence of God will be demonstrated. And what is this presence of God? It is the presence of good, which is manifested in health and harmony.
