[Written for the Sentinel]

God is Love and Truth and Life

I know that God is Love and Truth and Life, —
     Is All-in-all;
I know a list'ning ear can always hear
     Love's tender call;
And when earth's path seems dark to me
Truth guides, if I but lift my eyes to see;
And if I listen, watch and work and pray,
And strive to walk with God from day to day,
I cannot fall; no matter where I go
Love is before me all the way, I know.

I know that man, in God's own image made,
     Is whole and free;
Frail mortal man is but the counterfeit
     Of you and me;
Beyond earth's dream of fallen man
Stands God's eternal, sinless, perfect plan;
And when I close the eyes of mortal sense,
And dwell in thought on Love's omnipotence,
Earth's phantoms flee; like morning mists they go;
For God is All, and God is good, I know.
