Christian Science and the Newcomer
To the student, Christian Science reveals a universe of infinite good, which contains no anxiety, grief, or fear. The student quickly learns not only that perfect happiness is attainable, but that it has always been man's by right of divine heritage; and once the chains of human thought have been broken by Truth, the limitations of man-made laws can never again shackle him. As one progresses in the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, it is realized that Christian Science is the rediscovery of the divine laws through which Christ Jesus healed the sick and raised the dead. It is, therefore, evident that if one appears to be heavy-laden with the beliefs of disease, sorrow, or poverty, the divine laws are just as effective to-day to remove these unnecessary mirages of mortal existence as they were nineteen hundred years ago, when Christ Jesus demonstrated that the condition of the real man is without blemish, even as his heavenly Father is perfect.
Jesus' so-called miracles were instantaneous healings; and when Christian Science is correctly understood and sincerely applied, the healing of any problem will be instantaneous also. The understanding of divine Love is the solvent of all material problems. If our thought is imbued with the living Christ, our so-called problems will be brought under the law of divine Principle, and thus be adjusted completely and immediately.
Every loving thought is cumulative; and every step in the study of Christian Science is a progressive step. Progress is the proof of understanding. It is the demonstration of the everyday availability of divine law. Scientific progress, therefore, is the translating of our daily activities into terms of Christliness, thereby reflecting Love even as Jesus reflected the heavenly Father.
