Christian Science is the rediscovery of the teaching of Christ Jesus as it was practiced by him in healing the sick and reforming the sinner. Marry Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in her text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 107): "In the year 1866, I discovered the Christ Science or divine laws of Life, Truth, and Love, and named my discovery Christian Science." On page 123 of the same book is written, "The term Christian Science was introduced by the author to designate the scientific system of divine healing;" and this divine healing has pursued its victorious march throughout the world, where it has brought health, peace, and happiness to thousands of grateful people, and adduced evidences — instead of preachings only — that the teaching of the Bible is divine and scientific. These evidences also guarantee that Christian Science may be rightly called Christian, for Christ Jesus said, "If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." The teaching about the atonement is given a special chapter in Science and Health, in which the atonement is elucidated in the clearest way for the help and salvation of all seekers, who learn to see how Christ reconciles man to God; namely, by giving him a truer sense of that Love which was the whole foundation of the teaching of Jesus.

Christian Science does not teach that there are three persons in divinity, as this is contrary to the Bible declaration, "The Lord our God is one Lord," which word is confirmed by Christ Jesus in Mark. Mrs. Eddy writes in her Message for 1901 (p. 4): "Those who misjudge us because we understand that God is the infinite One instead of three, should be able to explain God's personality rationally. Christian Scientists consistently conceive of God as One because He is infinite; and as triune, because He is Life, Truth, Love, and these three are one in essence and in office." Christian Science gives men an opportunity to convince themselves, here and now, that God is omnipotent and almighty, and that it is that life-giving truth which Christ Jesus said would make men free.
