About twelve years ago I first asked for absent treatment from a practitioner in Christian Science, as I was in need of physical healing. I was suffering from extreme nervousness, which physicians had been unable to heal. Since childhood I had been a member of a denominational church, in which I had worked continually and sincerely until near the time of my request for Christian Science treatment; but for several months I had felt dissatisfied with the teachings of this church. Mrs. Eddy says in the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. vii): "The time for thinkers has come. Truth, independent of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the portal of humanity." The time to think had come to me. Through the prayers of the earnest Christian Science practitioner I not only was helped physically but was so changed spiritually that I got a glimpse of God which meant more to me than the improvement in the physical condition. This new sense of God satisfied my reason and began to illumine the Bible, for it revealed the true, divine Principle, which would enable me to solve all my problems. The greatest comfort and blessing that Christian Science has brought to me is this understanding of God, whom, as our Leader says (Science and Health, Pref., p. vii), "to know aright is Life eternal." Through this knowledge of God as divine Love, omnipotent Mind, eternal and ever present, I have been protected in many ways and conditions.

When I had studied Christian Science but a few weeks, I was called upon to do some work that required traveling over a large territory and making addresses to strangers. Since I had had from childhood a peculiar fear of speaking in public, I felt this work to be impossible. But the practitioner told me I could do it, for Love would go before me, and that wherever I went I would find God and His ideas. The morbid fear was healed with these thoughts from the Scriptures: "I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight," and, "The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me." The work was happily and successfully done.

In 1915 I was in Galveston during a hurricane, which lasted nineteen hours. A Christian Scientist who knew I was there worked for me in Science during the night. The words
