Letters from the Field

"Very recently I had the great privilege of spending a brief period at the Christian Science Sanatorium, and the experience was so inspiring that I began to study more closely the meaning of the word 'gratitude.' Among its meanings are these,—'feeling of obligation,' 'acknowledgment,' 'recognition.' Thus it is with a feeling of obligation toward those who do not know, through personal experience, of the wonderful work that is being done there, and in grateful acknowledgment and recognition of the faithfulness and loving-kindness of all the loyal workers there, that I give this expression of gratitude to the field.

"Unless one has been a guest or an associate at the Sanatorium it is difficult fully to appreciate the scope of the work which is being accomplished by this important activity of The Mother Church. How constantly it is meeting the needs of mankind, and providing a 'peaceable habitation' and quiet resting place which so many desire!

"The spirit of loving cooperation, helpfulness, and joy of service manifested by all is beautiful, and makes one feel that here, indeed, are the words of our beloved Leader (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 117) made practical,—'Love is the Principle of unity, the basis of all right thinking and acting; it fulfils the law.'
