In May, 1913, when our daughter was two years old, she...

In May, 1913, when our daughter was two years old, she had difficulty in using her right arm. Knowing that she had received no injury of any kind, we were at a loss to understand what the trouble could be, so she was taken to a physician, who said the shoulder was dislocated. He put it back into place, and for a few days the arm seemed better. The trouble returned, however, and in about ten days she was taken to a second physician, who also pronounced the trouble dislocation, and put the bone back into place. By the first of July there had been no improvement whatever, and there was a great deal of pain when the child tried to lift her arm, and a very noticeable drooping of the shoulder. We then took her to a near-by city and had her examined by a physician there. He could find no dislocation, but advised us to have an X-ray photograph taken. Arrangements were made through him to have this done a few weeks later by an eminent X-rayist. After the photograph was taken, the case was pronounced inflammation of the marrow of the bone. We were advised to have the shoulder placed in a plaster cast for three months; and if this did not effect a cure, a serious operation was to be undertaken.

Even with the slight knowledge I had of Christian Science at that time, I was, however, unwilling to submit to this method. On the first of September the child was placed under the care of a Christian Science practitioner. The change seemed very slow at first; but just as soon as my own fears for the child were overcome, the healing began. At the end of seven months, the arm was perfectly normal in every way. Eight years have passed since this healing, and there has been no return of the trouble whatever. I am more grateful than words can express that the child was spared the discomfort and distress that would undoubtedly have been hers had we not known of Christian Science at that time; and I shall never forget the loving-kindness and untiring patience of the practitioner in allaying my fears and helping me to look away from materiality.

Christian Science has brought untold blessings to my family and me, and its application to every problem brings harmonious results in proportion to our willingness to forget self,—self-will, self-love, and self-justification,—and let that Mind be in us "which was also in Christ Jesus." The value of class instruction is unfolding to me more and more every day; and I am grateful for the privilege of serving the Cause of Christian Science by sharing in the glorious work of lessening the belief of evil. I am grateful to God and to Mrs. Eddy, who has revealed to us such a practical religion.
