The ministry of Jesus was practical

Natal Witness

The ministry of Jesus was practical. He not only taught the great facts of spiritual being, unfolding to his students the true nature of God as infinite good, the true nature of man as the divine image and likeness, but he also demonstrated the truth of what he taught by overcoming sickness, sin, and death. He went about continually doing good. Jesus was the Founder of Christianity. As the Exemplar of spiritual wisdom, purity, power, and love he stands supreme for all peoples and for all time. But he paid the price on Calvary, for his opponents said, "Thou hast a devil." Jesus showed the necessity, not only of believing his teachings, but of making these teachings practical. Thus he sent out his disciples on their healing mission. "And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick." This essential part of Christianity, however, gradually faded from the Christian Church, and salvation has been preached as depending on belief instead of understanding and demonstration.

In the year 1866, Mary Baker Eddy, a cultured, spiritually-minded New England woman, came before the world with her discovery of Christian Science. Years of consecrated research and study revealed to her the fact that the law of God, which Jesus understood so perfectly, is operative to-day, and can be applied to the solution of every human problem. Mrs. Eddy bravely held to her convictions, healing and teaching, as well as founding and organizing the Christian Science church. Since that time, for more than half a century, thousands of men and women all over the globe have found that in following the teachings of Christian Science their lives have been sweetened, their characters elevated, their mental horizon filled with hope and joy. They have, moreover, been able to carry the healing truth to others and to lift the burden of sorrow and suffering from many a heart.
