The Lectures

London, England (Third Church).—Introducing A. Hervey-Bathurst, a Christian Science lecturer, to his audience, Miss Edith J. Guthrie made the following remarks:—

Our Leader asks: "What is it that lifts a system of religion to deserved fame? Nothing is worthy the name of religion save one lowly offering—love" (Miscellany, p. 258). And what of the fruits of this religion? They are the fruits of healing, peace, and regeneration. Such must always be the signs of Immanuel, "God with us."

During the past twenty years I have seen many kinds of sin and sickness healed. I myself have been called back to life by the Word of Truth when apparently passing away. No one could have gone so far and have been restored except by the Christ, Truth. The "valley of the shadow of death" was proved nothing but a shadow. John the Baptist was told of these signs when he sent messengers to Jesus from prison asking, "Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?" Jesus' reply affirmed his heaven-sent mission by a simple recital of his works: "Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me."
