The Lectures

Melbourne, Australia (First Church).—Introducing Frank H. Leonard, a Christian Science lecturer, to his audience, George Martin said in part:—

Most men recognize the Bible as an ideal guide to life; and when the Bible is read and studied in the light that Christian Science throws upon its sacred pages, the illumination that comes to one is such that passages which before were obscure and dark, become guideposts to one's future thinking. Now the mission of Christian Science is to show people how to control their thinking; how to correct the wrong thoughts which would lead them into sin and sickness; in other words, its mission is to lead people into health, harmony, happiness, and prosperity by right thinking.

In a few words I will tell of healings that have taken place in our family. When Christian Science came to us, my mother was an invalid; and for twenty to twenty-five years had been in and out of hospitals and under medical treatment. She was healed by reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. My sister, as the result of an accident, received severe concussion of the brain. The doctor's verdict was that it would take from four to six months for her to recover sufficiently to resume her duties. We discarded this gloomy advice and called in a Christian Science practitioner, with the result that within two weeks the case was completely healed. I myself, some years ago, was attacked with gastric influenza, typhoid fever, and brain fever. For two or three days the case seemed hopeless; but thanks to the loving help of a Christian Science practitioner, I was able to return to my office within ten days. These are but examples of the healing work that Christian Science is to-day doing throughout the world, not only in distant countries, but right here in our own commonwealth.
