I feel I have waited too long to express my gratitude...
I feel I have waited too long to express my gratitude through one of the periodicals for the numberless blessings which have come to me and mine through our beloved Leader's teachings. I came into Christian Science for physical healing. Our family physician and specialists in three states said I had leakage of the heart and complications. An acquaintance from another city came to see me, and said she had a little book she wished I would read. She then told me of her healing in Christian Science. At this time I was never without medicine for the heart within close reach, as the specialist had told me I must take it as soon as the least symptom presented itself. The physicians had said I might live a month, six months, or at the longest a year.
After reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy for four days, I found I did not want to be without it; so I sent to the library for a copy. At this time I was still taking osteopathic treatments, which I continued for some time; but finding they did not benefit me, I gave them up. I continued reading, and suffering. My husband and son, at the close of their vacation, concluded they could not go on the road unless I would take up osteopathic treatments again or have a physician. To please them I went to the telephone to call the osteopath, but received no response. Then I sat and prayed for God to give me strength to tell them I wanted Christian Science. As earnest prayer always gives us courage to do what is right, I found it easy to say I wanted Christian Science treatment, as everything else had failed. There was silence for a few minutes; then they said, "Call for help immediately."
The kind practitioner came. After talking with me a while, he said he would read to me. After that reading I knew there was nothing for me except Christian Science. Three days later I went to the kitchen, and was pouring the medicine into the sink when my son said, "Mother, what are you doing?" I told him I had taken my last dose of medicine or any treatment except that of Christian Science. Needless to say, I was healed of the heart trouble instantly. The other ailments, bowel and stomach disorder, severe throat trouble and intense headaches, did not respond at once. It was almost five years before I was entirely free. For years I had worn an abdominal bandage, which was at last discarded.
