The teachings of Christian Science have opened the eyes...

Weekly Herald

The teachings of Christian Science have opened the eyes of many who had been blinded by the mesmeric belief that life is in matter and is subject to matter; and it has often thereby healed them instantaneously of disease pronounced incurable by medical science. Jesus of Nazareth taught that God is Spirit, and that man is the child of God; and when he proclaimed this glorious gospel or good news the Pharisees condemned his teaching as "quackery, charlatanry"—pretension to some power or skill which was not possessed by him—and said: "By our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.... Away with him, away with him, crucify him." Nevertheless, the correctness of Jesus' teaching is once more being practically demonstrated to-day in the helaing and regenerating work of Christian Science. In answering just such a criticism as that of your correspondent, Mrs. Eddy wrote in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 346): "I regret that such criticism confounds man with Adam. When man is spoken of as made in God's image, it is not sinful and sickly mortal man who is referred to, but the ideal man, reflecting God's likeness."
