My attention was first called to Christian Science about...

My attention was first called to Christian Science about fifteen years ago. At that time I was sent to the home of a Christian Science practitioner with a message. What impressed me there most was the number of people waiting in the reception room, and the sense of peace that prevailed amid so many ills of the flesh. I knew at once that Christian Science was the religion I wanted. Although I had been reared in a Christian home, and was a member of a Protestant church and always a student of the Bible, the only God I had found was one who, as I thought, sent afflictions upon us, to purify our souls for an endless hereafter! How quickly my concept of God changed after learning the way in Christian Science! How precious to know that heaven is a state of consciousness attainable now, and not a vague possibility after death!

We have had many wonderful demonstrations of God's healing power, a few of which I will mention briefly. The first was an instantaneous healing of astigmtism. On two occasions mumps were overcome in a few hours; a severe case of influenza was met in one day; and a disolcated joint was set by divine surgery. One day my little boy was playing with old boards, and to keep a baby from getting hurt he threw out his hand to catch the child. In doing so, a crooked, rusty nail ran through his hand, entering the palm and coming out at the back. He would not let any one take it off, the board, hand, and nail remaining together until I got to him. I declared the spiritual truth, and removed the nail as easily as I would pick up a pin from the table. There was very little pain, and no bad after effects.

God has been our only physician for nearly twelve years. Not only has He healed our diseases, but He is our ever present help in all times of need. His protecting power has been evident many times. My progress has been slow, but it has been ever upward. I am indeed grateful for the physical healings, but more grateful for the spiritual uplift and peace of mind that have come into my life. I am also grateful for the privilege of working in the Sunday school and for membership in The Mother Church. I rejoice that I can say, "Thy will be done," and can know that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," as Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), whether that need be lack, sin, sorrow, or sickness.—(Mrs.) Rose N. Slaughter, Douglas, Ariz.
