[Written for the Sentinel]

Be Still!

"Be still, and know that I am God." Thy path
Is but a moment hid by lowering fog.
Let not the fleeting, mist-distorted shapes,
Or jarring elements that loudly call,
Affright or lure thee from thy present stand.
O child of God, be still; await the dawn!

Art thou a man? This is thine hour of trial;
Yield not a moment to thy frightened sense;
The snare, the pitfall, but await the step;
The glee of fancied demons would resound
To further hush the "still small voice" within.
O child of God, stand firm; await the dawn!

Could man speak into being aught that is,
Or tune to perfect rhythm the morning stars?
No more can mortal judgment, finite will,
Avail to guide thy destiny aright.
One power there is that orders all things well.
O child of God, rejoice; behold the dawn!
