Christian Science healing is built on the understanding of divine law, while other systems adopt material means. No one, I venture to say, would presume to assert that the healing of the sick and the raising of the dead, as accomplished by Jesus, was faith healing, nor yet the action of mind over matter. The Bible text shows that these took place through the operation of divine law. Now any attempt to establish congruence between divine law and so-called material law brings us squarely up against antinomies utterly irreconcilable. To this there is but one answer: one is law, the other a travesty seemingly operating under the name of law. That divine law is the only law subverting all so-called material laws is the great truth set forth in Mrs. Eddy's book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." On page 168 of this volume she says: "Because man-made systems insist that man becomes sick and useless, suffers and dies, all in consonance with the laws of God, are we to believe it? Are we to believe an authority which denies God's spiritual command relating to perfection,—an authority which Jesus proved to be false? He did the will of the Father. He healed sickness in defiance of what is called material law, but in accordance with God's law, the law of Mind."

It will be noted that the New Testament speaks of the works of Jesus as "miracles." In this connection it is well to remember that the Greek word elsewhere translated "miracles" is in Mark 16:17 translated "signs." "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; ... they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." So to-day, evils are cast out and the sick recover in conformity to this promise, as they did in the days of the early church,—by recourse to divine law alone.
