Unawares

Into my heart an angel came one day,And found me strangely startled, unawares.I gave no heed, until it seemed to say:"I came in answer to your fervent prayers."

Oh, welcome guest! How oft my soul had cried,That out of error's dark and hideous dreamAn angel, like to thee, should be my guideInto a land where Love should reign supreme.
