I should like to express my gratitude for the many blessings...
I should like to express my gratitude for the many blessings that have come to me through the study and application of the teachings of Christian Science. When first becoming interested, I was instantaneously healed of a disease of a very disagreeable nature. Since that time I have received much help, sometimes being able to do the work myself, and sometimes through the help of a loving practitioner; and I am now having daily proof of God's loving care. Supply has been demonstrated for me; and I should like to narrate my experience in a burning building.
The hotel in which I was living caught fire. The alarm was given between one and two o'clock in the morning; and when the firemen arrived they rushed every one out, insisting that the building would not stand for ten minutes, with the further statement that it was a "fireman's nightmare." I called a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help. As I finished speaking with her the telephone wires were disconnected. I was allowed to remain in the hotel lobby, for I did not wish to go out, as the others did. In a surprisingly short length of time—I should say not over fifteen minutes—I was told I might go back to my room; that the fire was under control, and that there was no more danger. I will never forget my gratitude for Christian Science when I heard those words, just after hearing it said that the building could not stand ten minutes. I also wish to state that there was not the slightest odor of smoke in my room, although rooms adjoining mine could not be used for several weeks for need of repairs; while other rooms could not be used that night on account of smoke.
Words cannot express my gratitude to God; and to Mrs. Eddy, for teaching us how to live our religion and prove it.
