For over twenty years I have been studying Christian Science...
For over twenty years I have been studying Christian Science, reaping its harvest of blessings, and giving my testimonies in our local Christian Science churches. Now, for the first time, I would like to write for one of our much loved periodicals something of those many blessings; and, just as I have been humbled and healed by reading others' rehearsals of gratitude, I want some one to be healed by mine.
In the year 1900, I found myself forlorn in mind and body, with what doctors would have called nervous prostration. It seemed best to stop my school teaching and travel away to new surroundings. Christian Science had been in the family for several years; and, in my hour of distress, I turned to it with my whole heart. While resting for a year, patient studying was pursued; but not until systematic treatments were taken did more healthy progress evidence itself. My healing was slow; for self-mesmerism is not always quick to yield to truth, and there was much for me to learn and to do. I eventually regained my health, and normal standing as a public school teacher; and I felt much stronger and wiser for the experience, as Christian Science taught me so many invaluable lessons.
I am still trying to be a true Christian Scientist, in gratitude to God, the Giver of every good and perfect gift; to Christ Jesus, who demonstrated over all evil and proved the nothingness of matter; and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for the discovery and founding of Christian Science. I am also grateful to many loved ones who have helped me.
