Christian Science came into my life when I was a frail young woman. I had never been a strong girl; and had been under a physician's care much of the time, receiving only temporary relief.

My first healing in Christian Science was a great surprise to me. I had borrowed a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and had been carefully reading it, with no thought of its benefiting me physically, but to find out what Christian Science teaches. With the coming of the first fall weather I had a very severe attack of throat trouble, which I had had every winter for several years, being troubled with it more or less all through the winter, with usually two or three severe attacks, which kept me in bed for about two weeks, leaving me very weak. When this attack came on my husband wanted to send for a physician, as we had always done; but I told him I thought this would be a good opportunity to see if Christian Science would really do the things it claimed. Although he was very much frightened at the severe symptoms of the disease, he consented to call a Christian Science practitioner for me, who very lovingly consented to help me. In about two hours the pain in my throat and head had ceased, and all evidence of fever had disappeared; and I slept comfortably all night. In the morning I awakened refreshed, and went about my usual household duties, feeling no effect from the experience of the day before. I can never forget the wonderful spiritual uplift that came to me. For days I lived in the wonder of this healing, and of the sweet consciousness of God's presence. This has been a permanent healing; and I am deeply grateful for it.

I have had many other physical healings since that time, for each of which I am grateful; but I am really more grateful for the better understanding of God that has come to me through the study of the Bible in connection with Science and Health. These books are my daily study; and through obedience to their teaching I am learning to prove both for myself and for others our dear Leader's words which appear on page 147 of Science and Health: "This system enables the learner to demonstrate the divine Principle, upon which Jesus' healing was based, and the sacred rules for its present application to the cure of disease."
