Gratitude for blessings received through Christian Science...
Gratitude for blessings received through Christian Science prompts me to send this word of praise to God through our periodicals. I have been a student of Christian Science for seventeen years, and during that time I have experienced many healings for myself, and have seen many proofs of the power of Truth, as demonstrated for my family.
When I took up the study of Christian Science I was wearing glasses for what was called, by the oculist, astigmatism. This difficulty caused me to suffer very much from headaches and pain in the eyes. As I was a teacher at the time, and used my eyes constantly during both the day and the evening, the suffering was almost constant. I applied to a Christian Science practitioner for help. After four or five months of treatment there was sufficient improvement to enable me to lay aside the glasses, which seemed to be a help to me no longer. I began to realize that the complete healing of this trouble meant the gaining of increased spiritual understanding on my part. I continued to study daily, and to apply what I had learned; and as the eyes of my understanding were being enlightened, my sight steadily improved. I did all that was required of me in the way of close work, such as reading or sewing, without the aid of glasses, but found it necessary each time to protect my thought from fear and to reassure myself with God's law of love. At the end of about a year, I found that I was free, using my eyes at all times without fear and without suffering.
This was my first healing in Christian Science, and it has stood the test of sixteen years. I am most sincerely grateful for this healing, and for the many blessings which have come to my household through the demonstration of the teachings of Christian Science. I am grateful for the one who was the revelator of Truth to this age,—our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.—(Mrs.) Clara E. Reed Webster, Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
