Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

Los Angeles Times

Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 451), "Every Christian Scientist, every conscientious teacher of the Science of Mind-healing, knows that human will is not Christian Science, and he must recognize this in order to defend himself from the influence of human will." As a matter of fact, failure is the only expectation a Christian Scientist has from human will-power, either as a medium for invoking the power of God or as a factor in the practice of Christian Science. Therefore, let no one imagine he is using Christian Science by trying to "will" the power of God into his experience, or by saying "health" and "wealth" to heal sickness and gain riches. Rather, let it be understood that in Christian Science he must pray without ceasing, "Not my will, but thine, be done;" and in the measure that he obliterates all sense of human willpower, and also all so-called thought-forces of the carnal mind, there will be manifested to him the healing of sin, disease, want — all the evils arising from the belief of a human will; "for by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God."
