Allow me to state that Christian Science makes no pretension. Its teaching is genuine throughout, as can be shown by actual results. If the critic has read ancient history, — and I presume that he has, — he must have found that divine healing was practiced long before the Christian era. Christian Science is a restatement of the ancient teaching in this particular, in language capable of being understood by students of the present day. Those who make a study of the subject find that what appears to some people to be incredible at the outset is found to be truthful and genuine as the study proceeds. We regret that the doctor did not find in ancient history sufficient on the subject of divine healing to induce him to make a study of it. The history of divine healing up to the present shows that it is gradually eliminating disease and its consequences from the world; while the history of medicine shows that the more diseases are studied the more do they become fastened on the human mind and body, and that the study and practice of medicine has led to a multiplication and complication of ailments. While giving the medical profession full credit for what it is doing in the alleviation of human suffering, we would be grateful if our friends the doctors, and certain other people as well, would make a more thorough investigation of the teachings of Christian Science before they condemn it.
