After having applied a continually increasing understanding...
After having applied a continually increasing understanding of Christian Science for more than twelve years, I desire to express gratitude again, not only for many specific physical healings, such as the overcoming of catarrh, pneumonia, eye trouble, carbuncles, a severely sprained ankle, the drinking and smoking habits (to mention a few), but most particularly at this time for strength and courage to meet what have seemed to me periods of extreme mental stress, such as would have mastered me formerly. There have been times when the mental and physical suffering were so intense that it seemed humanly impossible for me to be at my post; yet, with rare exceptions, I have been able, not only to be in my place, but through the struggle and triumph to bring healing freedom to others. When I have found it expedient to call on one more experienced than myself for help, this has not been with any sense of defeat, but it has always strengthened me to work out some larger problem, and to take a higher stand for Truth. In fact, I find in reviewing each problem after it has been solved, that the suffering invariably was included in a selfish and limited sense of things; that the demand was for a larger view and greater consecration, which meant a clearer reflection of Love.
That our victories over the suggestions of evil mean a lessening of the human struggle throughout the world has always been an inspiration for renewed consecration to the Cause of Christian Science, and a higher regard for our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who writes on page 426 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" that she "finds the path less difficult when she has the high goal always before her thoughts, than when she counts her footsteps in endeavoring to reach it." All this has brought to me a joy that is from above, that is not dependent on material circumstances, and that radiates the Christ-healing.
Edward Earle Daniell, Philadelphia, Pa.
