Your New Year greetings and advice have the right ring...
The Ramah (Colo.) Record
Your New Year greetings and advice have the right ring, are lofty in sentiment, and are to be commended, with the exception of the reference to Christian Science, which, though kindly in intent, might be misleading to the uninformed.
The doctrine of the brotherhood of man and the fatherhood of God, as well as the application of the Golden Rule, recommended by you, are basic to Christian Science teaching and practice. . But, contrary to the belief of some, Christian Science is not the power of mind over matter. Christian Science practice is simply the power of God, divine Mind, expressed in and to the human consciousness by means of true, harmonious, spiritual thinking. Such thinking naturally antidotes and annuls the fear, envy, lust, and other evils which are producers of all human suffering. It is obvious that as the human mind, which embraces and controls the human body, is thus corrected and harmonized, its servant, the material body, is proportionately harmonized. This is what Paul meant when he wrote to the Christians at Rome, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
That there is nothing fallacious or effeminate, in the sense of weak, in Christian Science has been proved by those who have studied and applied its teachings; for by means of Christian Science they have been strengthened both morally and physically, and have found freedom from sins and sickness, even as was promised by Christ Jesus in the memorable and oft quoted words: "If ye continue in my word, . . . ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." On page 354 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy writes, "The words of divine Science find their immortality in deeds, for their Principle heals the sick and spiritualizes humanity." Surely no fair-minded person would deny the Christliness of such good works, when Christ Jesus said, "By their fruits ye shall know them."
