Although not in search of health or a satisfying religion...
Although not in search of health or a satisfying religion, both these blessings came into my life with the advent of Christian Science. I had never been either strong or very well and did not expect to be so, any more than I expected to be very vitally interested in religion. Only tolerant when my mother saw the truth of Mrs. Eddy's inspired teaching, I could not help recognizing that it brought her happiness and tranquillity, and so added happiness to the rest of us. Moreover, with the destruction of parental fear, the children's tendency to ill health was entirely destroyed and we gained both health and strength.
I saw others prove and proved for myself the power of Christian Science to heal and I came to realize its faultless logic. Now, after more than twenty years of dependence on it for help of every sort, I know it is the one important study and that it offers the only teaching which can bring real satisfaction.
My last appeal to a physician for help shows the practical value of even a very rudimentary knowledge of Christian Science. I had a small growth on my finger. Not knowing what it was, I thought little about it until one day some one saw it and said it was a wart. Under that name it seemed an affliction and disturbed me very much, with the result that there came a second and a third. When the fourth began to make its appearance, I decided to have them removed, feeling that, though I knew that Christian Science would do the healing work if I would wait, I could not wait even for a day. The doctor acceded to my desire for a quick method of removal. At the end of a week, I stood physically just where I did before, the warts having come back. But I had learned that, knowing the true way, I could not choose a false one. A very few days of thinking rightly whenever the subject came up in my thought, resulted in absolute disappearance of the annoying blemishes.
