Like a great many others I came to Christian Science for...

Like a great many others I came to Christian Science for physical healing after all material remedies had failed, and have received so many benefits that I want to give this testimony and thereby in a measure express my great thankfulness to God and for Christian Science. This teaching first came to my notice about nine years ago through several copies of the Sentinel sent to me by a friend, but I did not become really interested until several months later when the physician said that medicine could not help me permanently and that he knew of no other remedy which would cure me. He advised Christian Science and urged me to send for a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and study it. At that time I despaired of ever becoming strong and useful again as my capacity for work was so limited, but after several months, through the reading of Science and Health and the faithful work of a practitioner, my health improved so wonderfully that I was able to take up my work again. Glasses, which had been worn for twelve years, were laid aside, and since then my eyes have given no trouble whatever.

Among the many healings which have come to me there is one I should like to mention especially. I had been suffering from quinsy sore throat about ten days and not being successful in overcoming it myself, telegraphed one afternoon to a practitioner. The same night I received relief, and enjoyed a sound sleep. By morning all inflammation had disappeared, and I was well and able to do a day's work as usual; the healing was complete. When Christian Science first came to my attention, I did not understand about absent treatments but soon learned that an absent treatment is just as helpful as a present treatment, since God is the healer and ever present.

In Christian Science I have found a satisfying religion and am most thankful for the spiritual uplift; it seems to outweigh even the many physical healings. I also wish to express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, although to speak of gratitude to her seems a poor way to tell what one really feels for the great work she has founded. I am also thankful for all the publications and for the activities of The Mother Church during the war, sending to so many the needed help and comfort.
