The Lectures

Derby, England (First Church).—Miss Mary G. Ewing, lecturer; introduced by J. Arthur Aiton, who said in part:—

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden," was the invitation issued many centuries ago to a troubled world by Jesus the Christ, who accompanied the invitation by the promise, "And I will give you rest." Looking at the present day condition of the world it does not seem as if the promise had been very widely fulfilled, and this can only be because the world has not believed the promise and has not tried to attain it; or, longing for its attainment,—as we all know it has done,—it has not known how to carry out the precedent condition of coming to the Christ, Truth, in the right way. Christian Science has come to the world, pointing out to it how it has gone wrong and how it may go right; further, it gives the assurance that when the world does come in the right way the promise is always fulfilled, not in some far-off future state, but here and now.
