From childhood I reached out for the truth, since much in my religion and daily life seemed dark, confusing, and contradictory. This search for spiritual clearness was slow, and my journey was through many byways and beset with severe battles and serious trials. For many years I had mental and bodily ailments to contend with. Various physicians were consulted, and during this time the usual material remedies from medicine to so-called mental healing methods were applied, without bringing about improvement. Frequently I thought of the Bible passage: "Ask, and if shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." The answer was soon given me, in as much as I found the "pearl of great price;" namely, Christian Science.

One lovely autumn morning in the year 1909 I was in the woods and deep in thought over an article which had appeared in Der Herold, when suddenly a wonderful sense of new life came over me, a sense of peace, joy, and divine harmony which words cannot express. Through the realization of God's omnipotence and omnipresence I was healed in a few minutes of anæmia, a nervous trouble, and chronic inflammation of the eye, from which I had suffered for twelve years. Through the diligent study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I was also healed of a stubborn stomach and bowel trouble of twelve years' standing, and finally, after several months, of chronic inflammatory rheumatism, a trouble from which I had suffered for twenty years. My healing through Christian Science is permanent and I have never been troubled since that time. In proportion to my increased understanding of divine Truth as set forth in Christian Science, I have received numberless blessings, both mental and material, as well as the beautiful proof of the power, protection, and sustaining care of God. I am also happy to have had the privilege of becoming a member of The Mother Church and of a Christian Science society, and since the year 1912, of working in the vineyard of the Lord.

After the war broke out in 1914 and we were facing terribly hard times, I was perfectly calm and trusted confidently in divine justice. During this period the works of our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and the Christian Science periodicals were of great help to me, also the Church Manual, Article VIII, Sections 4 and 8, served as special guidance to me. I tried daily to realize the brotherhood of man, the universal church, and the spiritual "structure of Truth and Love" (Science and Health, p. 583). Frequently a lack of food and household necessities seemed imminent, but the all-knowing Mind beautifully and constantly supplied our need. During all danger and need and while we were solving some difficult problems, omnipotent Mind was our only help and protection. The time will come when all will awaken to the realization of the revealed truth and will acknowledge one Father-Mother God; and there will be one Shepherd and one flock.
