As a man daily engaged in the affairs of the business...
As a man daily engaged in the affairs of the business world, I should like to submit my experience in Christian Science. Some years ago, while a salesman, I sought to improve my work by the study of so-called scientific salesmanship. This led to the study of psychology, as the law of suggestion was supposed to be a most important factor in the art of selling. Like others students of strictly materialistic doctrine, I came to what appeared to be the end of the road without finding anything that seemed to justify my existence in the great scheme of things. Ill health in the form of so-called nervous indigestion and sleeplessness manifested itself, and like nearly all of my friends I smoked and drank too much.
I had tried to read Science and Health purely as a psychological work, but had given it up; however, it had its effect upon me even though I was unaware of it, for when my condition seemed unbearable I went directly to a Christian Science practitioner instead of a doctor. Not only did Christian Science heal me of everything that I went to be healed of, but it uncovered and overcame shortcomings and traits of character of which I was unconscious. The result of my few years in Christian Science has brought much happiness to me and to others. The truth is my hourly guide in business relationships, and I have nothing and know of nothing which I would not part with before I would part with Science. Not only am I more proficient in every form of activity than ever before, but best of all I am deriving the joy that comes from a better reflection and expression of divine Love, Truth, good.
I hope that my life will bear conclusive testimony of my appreciation of the noble work of the Master and that of Mrs. Eddy, and that I may give daily evidence of my loyalty to Truth.—Thomas P. Myers, Detroit, Mich.
