It is over ten years since I first heard of Christian Science
It is over ten years since I first heard of Christian Science. I was then in a very nervous condition, having been a drinking man for fifteen years or more. I also smoked a great deal and was a very heavy gambler on horse racing. Many times I tried to give up these habits, but always went back to them. I also suffered greatly from stomach trouble.
After over a year spent in England drinking and following the races most of the time, I returned to America and started for a town in Maine where a position awaited me. I did not make good train connections at Portland and, as it was raining hard, I had to pass several hours in the waiting room. While there I took up some papers to read and they proved to be Christian Science pamphlets and some copies of the Sentinel. Up to that time I had considered myself an infidel, but I got interested right away, and continued to read most of the time until my train came. I believe I was healed of the drinking habit and the stomach trouble almost at once, as I got such a sense of uplift after reading a few minutes. When I reached my destination I ate everything that was set before me without any ill effects, and although I managed to drink the whisky I had with me, I had no desire for it. I threw away all the remedies I carried with me and have never used medicine since.
I am healed of all the things mentioned, and I trust God as taught in Christian Science for all my needs. I am very grateful to Mrs. Eddy for this teaching. Life would seem a blank to me without Christian Science, because it reveals the spiritual truths in the Bible.
