Gratitude and joy impel me to give a testimony of what Christian Science has done for me. A little over two years ago I was in very bad health physically, and mentally in a state of great depression. I suffered from rheumatism and was often prostrated with nervousness, having frequent faint turns; indeed, I was wretched and full of fear and anxiety. I struggled along, praying for strength and trying to overcome my "nerves." Then I found a friend who was a Christian Scientist, and she and I had a conversation. I was pleased and astonished beyond measure to find all my most cherished hopes and ideals put before me in a practical light. I felt that I had always known the truth, but that the world had obscured the light within me.
I begged my friend to lend me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, which she did, I was then under a doctor's care, taking medicine and tonics, and had often been obliged to take a so-called stimulant when faint and weak. From the day I commenced reading that beautiful book, however, I took no more medicine and had no more material help. There was much fear to overcome but I pressed on, feeling that my feet were on the rock. One after another all the ailments disappeared, fear was overcome, and my life became new. I felt that I was healed;
I understood that a spiritual birth had taken place within me, and that it was crowding our all material conceptions, considerations, habits, vanities, and diseases. I am a new being, in perfect health, with an inexhaustible fund of life and energy. A glorious optimism, founded on the understanding of spiritual life, has taken hold of me, which also visibly affects those with whom I come in contact. I give with joy all I have of love; in business the application of my understanding of Principle is my method and I can do any amount of work without fatigue. My circumstances have entirely changed; in every way my life has become a success. Christian Science has come to me; I have taken a deep draught, and word by word it has cleared away all mistiness of thought. I still have much to do and undo, but I see clearly before me that perfect life which is our rightful inheritance.
