Christian Science found me a cripple on crutches
Christian Science found me a cripple on crutches. I had been sick for over three years, during a large part of which time I had been unable to use my right foot at all. I had been invalided out of the Navy, as they said I could never possibly be fit for any service again.
When Christian Science was first offered to me I would have nothing to do with it, even when I saw that it did really heal chronic diseases. I did not think it right to accept the physical healing if I was not also prepared to accept the teachings and to try to put them into practice; and I was not prepared to accept what I thought Christian Science to be. One day, however, I was talking about it with a Scientist, and it was shown to me that Christian Science is common sense and the truth about Life. I at once started to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and was soon convinced that whether it healed me or not, Christian Science did indeed set forth the truth. I went up to London and started to study it with the help of a practitioner, who also gave me treatment. In six weeks I was able to start to work eight hours a day in a Government office, although the trouble was supposed to be tubercular. In six months I was passed as fit for active service by the same doctors who had previously invalided me out. That was two years ago. Since then I have been serving continuously at sea and have had many proofs of the supporting and healing power of Christian Science.
Although the physical healing was great, the moral and mental regeneration has been greater; and the wonderful thing about Christian Science is that it not only shows one how to lead a happy, healthy, and useful life but gives one cogent reasons for doing so. Life as explained by Christian Science is really worth living and is within the grasp of every man, woman, and child. My prayer is that by living worthy of it I may in some measure prove my thankfulness to God and to Christ Jesus the Way-shower, also my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, and to all those who have helped and are helping us to understand this glorious truth.
