Why it should be necessary to criticize the honest and...
Benton Harbor (Mich.) News-Palladium
Why it should be necessary to criticize the honest and sincere religious beliefs of others in an attempt to gain converts to Christianity, as was done recently by an evangelist, is beyond the comprehension of fair-minded persons.
The attempt on the part of the critic to belittle Christian Science by calling it a "cult" and "Eddyism" is rather ludicrous when the fact is realized that in the short time since its discovery, Churches of Christ, Scientist, have dotted the civilized globe, and in spite of denunciations and persecutions such as indulged in by this evangelist, its growth has been the most phenomenal of modern religious movements.
Jesus promulgated the rule by which his followers should be tested when he said, "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them," and Christian Scientists are ready and willing to be judged by this standard; for it is only by successfully doing the works the Master did, and commanded his followers to do—healing the sick, casting out evil, and destroying sin—that this wonderful growth has been attained.
