When I came into Christian Science, I was teaching...
When I came into Christian Science, I was teaching school in California. I had an organic trouble that caused me a great deal of suffering, and there being many things in the school curriculum which I did not like, I resigned my position and declared I would never teach again. I had not yet learned to say, "Thy will be done." Then came months of study and research, also treatment, but no healing. A favorite sister lived in the East and I wished to live near her, so I tried to get work in Boston, but could not. Weary months dragged into years, and while I gained some slight understanding of the truth I was not healed. One day I called on a practitioner with whom I had a brief conversation. She did not even treat me, but told me to go West and go to work. I was instantly healed and went forth from her home, free.
I went to the public library and found a Los Angeles paper in which there was an advertisement for teachers, so I sent my credentials and followed them a few days later. I reached Los Angeles on Wednesday and a week from the following Thursday was at work, teaching in a small town where there was a small Christian Science church which was greatly in need of faithful workers. I was an earnest worker now, for I had learned to say, "Thy will be done." It was over two years before I found other work than teaching, but during that time I was able to help others. Most of all I was helped myself, because I had learned true obedience. Then again I seemed tried almost beyond endurance. The time had come for me to prove that supply is spiritual, and God did supply my every need, for day by day His loving care was manifested to me.
I am grateful that I was obliged to prove that every need is a spiritual need and already supplied. My home has been restored, success has come to us, and I rejoice in some understanding of Christian Science. For this I love and feel deep gratitude to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
