In gratitude for all that Christian Science has brought to...

In gratitude for all that Christian Science has brought to me I send my testimony. For twelve years, so far as I can remember, not a day passed without my taking medicine. I was brought up in a home where everything that promised help was faithfully tried, but I still suffered more than I want either to express or to remember. Three minor operations that were undergone proved of no avail. Heartsick and despairing, I then consented to a serious operation. This was performed, and for a time hope was renewed, but only to be dashed to the ground. I was left in a more deplorable condition than ever, unable to take my part in the world, a burden to myself and all about me.

At this time, six years ago, Christian Science was presented to me. I had not heard of it before and jokingly laughed at it, but read Science and Health just because I wanted something to pass away the time. I turned first to the account of the spiritual creation, and my thought was so transformed and uplifted while reading it that I was instantaneously healed. I arose from the lounge where I was lying, took off the bandages which were being worn for support, and in two days was doing my housework. I have never touched medicine since; the Bible and Science and Health have met every need. Stomach trouble was overcome by realizing man's dominion, and for the first time in my life I ate without fear and suffered no ill effects. The way since then has sometimes seemed dark, but through faithful application of our Leader's teachings there has been constant progress out of discord into harmony. I am grateful for the daily lesson; for the Sunday service, which is impersonal, unadulterated, and satisfying; for a Bible so illumined by our Leader's teachings that its truth is sufficient for every need of mankind.

It is only as we progress and learn to apply the truth understandingly to the many problems that present themselves that we can begin to appreciate Mrs. Eddy's life work, and the wisdom she displayed in the manner in which she preserved and presented to us this "unspeakable gift."
