Eight years ago I was led to take up the study of Christian Science for the healing of burns caused by a gas explosion. The force of the explosion threw me back about twelve feet, and my eyes, face, hands, and arms were severely burned. The pain in the eyes was so intense that the other burns, even where the flesh was exposed, were not noticed. A physician was called, but was unable to give any relief. I did not know how to get help in Christian Science, but a friend was called by telephone, and through this friend's understanding of the truth I was instantaneously relieved of all pain and could open my eyes and see perfectly. From the severity of the injury to the eyes I do not believe I could have seen again without the aid of Christian Science. Those who saw the burns said it would take six months to heal them, and that I would be terribly scarred for life; but with the help of a Christian Science practitioner the healing was complete in one week, and not a sign of a scar was left.

Two years ago, while overseeing some construction work, I was standing on a scaffold twenty-six feet high when a plank gave way. Even as I was falling the thought came to me, God is Love, and in Him I have protection. One foot was dislocated by the fall, but while I sat there realizing the truth of being, it went back into place without the slightest physical assistance. A doctor had been sent for, but he was permitted only to bandage the leg loosely. A Christian Science practitioner's help was secured by wire, and the day following I was able to return to my home in Kansas City unassisted, and in a short time could walk perfectly. More recently I was healed of the tobacco habit, which seemed quite tenacious. One day an especially helpful thought came to me on reading an article in the Sentinel, and a few days later I realized that I had been freed from the habit. There has never been any desire for the weed since.

During these eight years of study divine Love has met every need. Our three children have been healed of measles, fevers, and other ills, and have never taken a drop of medicine. I know that Christian Science is absolutely reliable, for God is omnipotent. The Principle taught and demonstrated is of the greatest importance to me every day in business affairs, for there is greater harmony and I have much more satisfaction in my work. I am very thankful for all the authorized Christian Science literature, having special cause for appreciation of the Monitor, as it was the means through which I secured my present employment, which is satisfactory and profitable. I am also deeply grateful for the spiritual unfoldment that comes to me daily through the study of Christian Science. I always read the Bible a great deal, but had no idea that its teachings could be demonstrated. I thank God for Mrs. Eddy, who through her pure thought and spiritual consciousness was able to write "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which makes Christianity demonstrable.
