I feel impelled to give expression to my sincere gratitude...

I feel impelled to give expression to my sincere gratitude to God for the good that has come to me and mine by being led to find friends who through Christian Science put us on the road to Truth. We attended the services regularly for about a year, and had seen much improvement along several lines; more especially, it was my life which showed a great change. Despite the troublous times through which we are passing, I enjoy much greater peace of mind than formerly. Thus', having just returned from my fourth term of service in connection with the mobilization, I may say that during my absence I have had no apprehension concerning the work which I would find at the office upon my return. Before becoming acquainted with Christian Science I worried for a month in advance of a mere supplementary training lasting twelve days.

During this last mobilization, however, a serious test presented itself, which, thanks to Christian Science, was readily met, as I realized that if I did what was right, no evil would or could befall me. To come to the point, the case was one concerning my eldest son. I knew that for some time he had been coughing a great deal, and my wife and I worked against this error; still, in view of the fact that the boy kept coughing, as she was alone my wife decided to call a physician. After a through examination he took my wife aside and told her of his apprehension, saying that the case was serious, one of the lungs being affected, and that the boy should be sent to the mountains as soon as possible. He also prescribed several remedies, besides massage.

I can readily imagine my wife's condition after this consultation had she not known of Christian Science. Thanks to her knowledge of it she remained calm, and worked all night against this error which seemed to have befallen us. All this took place on a Tuesday, and as I was away doing service I knew nothing about it. My wife, however, wrote, informing me of the situation, but without telling me all that the physician had said, as she thought it would cause me to worry too much. She simply told me that the physician had found our son's cough to be a rather serious matter which required treatment, and that she would explain to me upon my return on the following Sunday. Wednesday morning the physician called again, and found the little patient very much better than the preceding day. He had spent a good night, had hardly coughed, and there was no fever. The prescribed remedies not having been bought, there could be no question as to the way in which the result had come about. Upon examining our son again the physician declared that he had been mistaken, that the case was not so serious as he had thought, and that the use of the remedies prescribed would soon put the boy on his feet. Needless to say, my wife did not tell the doctor the real cause of this sudden change; but she continued to work in Science, a task made very much easier through the assistance of a Scientist who has proved a great help to my wife, and to whom I feel greatly indebted on that account.
