In grateful recognition of what Christian Science has done...
In grateful recognition of what Christian Science has done for us I offer this testimony. When our eldest son was about ten years old he was taken with epilepsy, and we did everything we could for him that materia medica a could offer. He continually grew worse for seven years. He then had smallpox, which left him in a still worse condition. We employed a trained nurse during his illness with smallpox, and after he had recovered from that disease, she asked me to try Christian Science for the epilepsy. I did so, and he was entirely cured through absent treatment. Needless to say, my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for us is most profound.— Addie S. Elliott, Edenton, N. C.
While living in Two Harbors, Minn., I was taken ill with what the doctor called uremic poisoning, and every one thought the end was near; indeed, I have since been told that the doctor declared I had not many more days to live. My wife then asked me if she should call a Christian Science practitioner, and though I had no particular desire to live, my answer was neverthless in the affirmative. When the practitioner came, she said she would give me absent treatment provided I would not take medicine, and I agreed to her request.
The doctor's prescription, however, had already been filled, and just before the practitioner arrived I had taken a very small dose, about half the quantity called for; but none was taken after that. The doctor called every day and evidently was under the impression that I was taking medicine according to his direction, for after again making the usual examination in such cases and finding conditions normal, he remarked to a gentleman who happened to be in his laboratory at the time the examination was made that he never seen medicine work so fast and so thoroughly in all his life. He must have considered my case very serious, because he brought two other doctors to see me at different calls, and after my healing they made the remark to my wife that it was like a dead man coming to life.
