For many years I had longed for an understanding of God...
For many years I had longed for understanding of God and of the Bible, and at last Christian Science brought the perfectly satisfying explanation, as well as a message of great joy and peace. Although I did not seek help for physical healing, severe headaches, for which relief had been sought in materia medica in vain, gradually disappeared. One treatment only, during a severe attack, was given. This, together with an earnest study of Science and Health, accomplished a permanent healing. Later, help was asked for an attack of rheumatism, from which I had suffered greatly, and in two treatments the healing was complete. An alarming experience with ptomaine poisoning was overcome in one treatment by the same loving and consecrated practitioner.
For ten years Christian Science has been our only reliance in time of trouble. While profoundly grateful for the physical healings, I am much more so for the great consolation this knowledge of the truth brought to us during a time of deep sorrow. On page 567 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "Truth and Love come nearer in the hour of woe, when strong faith or spiritual strength wrestles and prevails through the understanding of God." During the darkest hours we have found that Christian Science is indeed the Comforter promised by the Master. To prove the sincerity of my gratitude I humbly desire to think and to live according to the will of God. My gratitude to Mrs. Eddy is likewise unbounded, as I realize more and more what she has done, and through her works is constantly doing, for humanity.
