Who Is Ready?

In Christian Science, God, divine Life, Truth, and Love, is understood as the basis of being, and generic man, including the universe, is recognized as the full reflection, expression, or manifestation of God. Individual man may be likened to the spiritual consciousness which realizes Truth. This glorious explanation of Truth is divine Science, the Comforter promised by the Master. The sincere seeker for truth finds Truth, but before mortals can accept the Science of being they must be ready for the new birth. Jesus revealed this to Nicodemus by saying, "Ye must be born again;" and holding to this idea we may say that divine Life must become our only existence, divine Truth our only utterance, divine Love our only love, divine Spirit our only incentive or spirit, and divine Mind our only consciousness. Nicodemus said, "How can these things be?" Mortal belief repeats this question today, and adds that we must suffer it to be so now, until the world is prepared for Christian Science.

The material world is the material, fleshly consciousness expressed. Then the question arises, Who is ready to accept divine Science? Every mortal is in a measure ready for Christian Science when he stops medicining one mortal belief for another; when material means fail to cure the sick body; when religious systems fail to comfort such as mourn, and when human love fails to satisfy. Then Christ, Truth, comes to human consciousness through divine Science, and we are taken to the mount of transfiguration, where we behold man as God's idea, incorporeal and spiritual. Here we see God face to face, and live.

Through the daily study, not the mere reading, of the Bible and of Mrs. Eddy's writings, we are enabled to dwell mentally in heaven and walk on earth, until through spiritual understanding this material thought-world fades from our consciousness like a dream.
