[Translated from the German]

When I took leave of my friends in Germany a few years...

When I took leave of my friends in Germany a few years ago, shortly before coming to America, they said to me, "Mind you do not join the faith-curists," meaning the Christian Scientists, and I laughingly replied: "Why no, why should I? I never go to church anyway and am never sick." Had I known at that time how happy and contented I should be precisely through becoming acquainted with Christian Science, my answer would have been less positive. I cannot tell how grateful and happy I am for this "pearl of great price" which I found soon afterward.

Whereas I was a restless, nervous, dissatisfied, bitter, and unhappy woman, Christian Science made me just the reverse, and for this words fail to express my gratitude. I have experienced physical healing through my own understanding of Christian Science in cases of headache, pain in the throat and back, toothache, colds, inflammations, swellings, nervousness, stomach trouble, and rheumatism. I have been healed of a weak foot and have found help in many other instances. I am ever so grateful for the wonderful protection experienced by maintaining the right mental attitude as taught in Christian Science.

The best part is of course the spiritual uplift and illumination, with consequent regeneration of one's mentality. Constant study, faithful application, and earnest work are, however, required in order to progress along these lines. I am most deeply appreciative of the comfort which I received when the war broke out. Through my knowledge of the truth I have remained calm and joyous. I cannot help feeling that if all who call themselves Christian Scientists would maintain the right attitude of thought with regard to the events now taking place, war would not be possible again, but instead there would be one great brotherhood united in love.
