Words are inadequate to express my gratitude to God for...
Words are inadequate to express my gratitude to God for the many blessings I have received through the reading of Science and Health. I came into Christian Science nearly eight years ago. While away on a visit I had a severe attack of throat trouble. A few days before I had been reading some testimonies in a copy of the Sentinel found in the home where I was visiting, though the people were not Scientists. These all seemed very beautiful to me, although I knew nothing of Christian Science; in fact it was the first time I had heard of it. When this attack came on, my aunt, whom I was visiting, wished me to consult a doctor, but I said I would rather try a Christian Science practitioner if there was one in town. She did not altogether like this, but finally gave her consent. At that time my throat was almost closed from the swelling, and I was so weak from loss of sleep and food that I could hardly walk to the practitioner's office, a distance of about four blocks. I had been using material remedies for several days, but to no avail.
After the first treatment the practitioner said she would give me absent treatment, and all I needed to do was to call her when I was healed. I was much stronger after the first treatment, which was given in the morning, and when I awoke the next morning I was completely healed. It all seemed so impossible to me that I ran to the looking-glass to see if the blisters in my throat were gone, and to my surprise my throat was in perfect condition. Words can never tell how happy I was for this beautiful demonstration. I could hardly wait to see the practitioner again to learn more of this beautiful truth that makes us free. I secured a copy of Science and Health and went home to read.
At that time I had worn glasses for eight years, and the oculist said they would always have to be worn or my eyesight would be lost entirely. I had read testimonies by people who had been healed through reading Science and Health, and I intended to give it a fair test, so took my glasses off and began to read by lamplight, something I had not done for several years, and I have continued to read without glasses ever since.
