Six years ago I was in a wretched physical condition, having had almost every law of materia medica laid upon me, and was told that the only hope of prolonging my life was a surgical operation, to which I submitted, only to find myself worse than before. For two years thereafter I grew steadily worse, until the physicians declared my condition incurable. At this time a nurse who was in attendance, and who had seen the power of Truth proved in her own family, recommended Christian Science. At first I declined to listen to her, considering my condition too serious to be reached by anything outside of medicine or surgery, but when my extremity was reached, I concluded to try Christian Science, though with no faith in its power to help me. My healing was slow, but I am grateful that I have thus learned to know what held me in bondage, and have been able gradually to give up the old way of thinking and to understand God as never before.
I am more thankful to God than words can express for having given to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, the insight into this glorious truth. I am grateful for Mrs. Eddy's unselfishness, for her perseverance in what she knew to be the truth, and for her precious gift to this age. I am grateful also for the privilege of attending Christian Science services, for the literature, and to the dear friends who have so lovingly helped me by thought, word, and deed. My desire is so to live that I may be worthy of the name of Christian Scientist.
