It is now over eight glad years since I first heard of Christian Science, and each year has been more beautiful than the one before. My testimony is given with a heart filled with gratitude for the countless blessings that have come into my life through this Science.

We had spent the winter in Arizona in the hope of benefiting my health, as I had been told by a specialist that I could not live longer here and not long in any climate. While there, and at first after our return, my health seemed a little better, but with the approach of cool weather the old ailments came back even worse than before. At this time I first heard of Christian Science as a means by which people were healed through prayer, and so went to our family physician, who had always been very kind to me, and asked if he knew what it was. He replied that he knew something of it, and advised me to try it, as I had tried nearly everything else and no drugs would ever do me any good. He added, however, that the children should not be entrusted to its care. I immediately sought the only Christian Science practitioner I had ever heard of, arriving at his home late in the evening. After giving me treatment he asked me to come again the next morning. I did so, although it was not necessary, as the trouble for which I was constantly taking opiates had vanished, and it has never returned. The specialist who had rendered the verdict of materia medica, examined my lungs after the treatment in Christian Science, and pronounced them perfectly sound.

When I left the home of the practitioner, he placed in my hands the first copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy that I had ever seen, telling me to learn the "scientific statement of being" on page 468, and the Lord's prayer as spiritually interpreted, on page 16. He then added, "God will teach you to know and to do." I had always believed that God could heal our diseases, and now I had found where to learn the way, and also the "pearl of great price." Never since then have I doubted, but have gone steadily onward, "trusting Truth, the strong deliverer" (Science and Health, p. 226).
