The Lectures

Clarence C. Eaton, who lectured on Christian Science at the Curran Theater, was introduced by Attorney Guy D. Duncan, who said in part:—

Christian Scientists are constantly alert to demonstrate, not only in the restoration of health but also in the upbuilding of character, that the influence of divine Love is even more potent than is that invisible power by which from the same soil and atmosphere one rose-bud selects red, another white, another pink, and still another yellow. They assure us that if humanity were to become fully imbued with the teachings of Christ Jesus, and the actual practice thereof as inculcated through the aid of Christian Science, our prison walls would crumble to dust and surgical operations at our hospitals would go out of fashion; that no longer would war and pestilence devastate the earth; that we need then have no further anxiety lest our citizens be again called to perform warlike deeds of valor, that then, indeed, would the drawn sword of the struggling nations seek its sheath and the tempered bullet melt into a statue of "Christ the Redeemer" to mark the national boundary, as did the cannon of Chile and Argentina; and that thereby would the "Prince of Peace" become eternally enthroned as the final arbiter of international affairs and another ideal of our noble President and of every true American be realized.

Surely such a religion is worthy of our most serious thought; therefore those of us who are not members of the Christian Science church are grateful to you for bringing your able lecturers to us.—Correspondence.
