I wish to tell of a demonstration over the effects of an accident. My left hand was caught under the needle-bar of the sewing-machine, and when it was released I saw that the needle was broken off at the shank, the longer piece having been forced through the thumb-nail at the base, making two incisions. There was no pain, even when the needle was removed, but the finger began to bleed rather profusely. This soon ceased, however, for I was earnestly praying as we are taught in Christian Science. After a few minutes I went to my room and opening Science and Health read Mrs. Eddy's words on page 398 in regard to the healing by Jesus: "To the sufferer with the withered hand he said, 'Stretch forth thine hand,' and it 'was restored whole, like as the other.'" I knew that the same power which healed the withered hand nineteen hundred years ago could heal my wounded hand; and it did, for I continued using it as though nothing had happened. There was no discomfort or inconvenience, no swelling or inflammation; moreover, I did not lose the nail.

The spiritual blessing that came with this healing was far in advance of the physical help, and can any one wonder that I am most grateful for the understanding of Christian Science.—Mattie A. Woodward, Kansas City, Mo.
