My heart overflows with thankfulness to God, and gratitude to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for through the study and application of Christian Science I have learned that "where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

While I was an infant the family physician told my mother that she could not expect to rear me, as I was too delicate; indeed, I never knew what it was to be free from ailments of some kind until I was healed in Christian Science. I have been healed of bilious fever, and severe headaches which were supposed to be hereditary; of frequent colds, and a cough that came upon me regularly in the fall and lasted till spring, with an attendant fear of lung trouble; also of chronic bowel disorder, diagnosed by specialists as "stricture and adhesions of the bowels." For this last ailment I submitted to the most painful treatment for months, and was then told that it had failed and an immediate operation was necessary to save my life, although no hope of recovery was given me. I was operated on, but afterward continued in a very bad condition until on turning to Christian Science I was perfectly healed. I also gave birth to a child with absolutely no pain, after two former experiences which were very serious, so that the doctors said I would never be able to survive another experience of this kind.

I am most grateful of all, however, for the overcoming of the morphine habit, brought on by the administration of that drug for nervous prostration, through which it was feared I would lose my mind; but I have learned that nothing can separate me from the one Mind, that as a child of God it is my birthright to manifest intelligence. When I seemed to have lost everything that was dear to me,—husband, home, and money,—thinking I no longer had anything to live for and was useless, I attempted to take my life. In this I failed, and now I have gained that "true idea of God" which "gives the true understanding of Life and Love, robs the grave of victory, takes away all sin and the delusion that there are other minds, and destroys mortality" (Science and Health, p. 323).
