It is now fifteen years since I first heard of Christian Science. I was always an ardent worker in my former church, but at last there came a time when the satisfaction and joy of it all left me, and I began to ask myself, Is there really a God or is it only a man-made theory? As time went on I visited one church after another, but found none that satisfied me any better than my own. Mentally I saw myself standing before a deep, dark pit, and became frightened. Circumstances took me to another state, where for the first time I heard of Christian Science. I did not, however, accept it until six months later, when after attending a testimony meeting a great light came into my consciousness and I knew I had found the living God.
I have never for one moment desired to go back or longed for the old days, but the light of Truth is shining brighter and brighter. Every problem that comes up is solved, each time with a stronger faith and a greater desire to go on. And why should we not be grateful? To be constantly grateful is the open secret of growth in Christian Science, for when we cease to be grateful we cease to see the light. We can never be thankful enough to God, who through Mrs. Eddy has given us this light. No one can ever take her place as the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.
Bertha R. Ruedinger, Fairhaven, Mass.
