Dundalk (Ireland) Herald
Our critic returns with unwearied persistence to ventilate his views on the subject of what he conceives to be Christian Science. When he says that "a temporary recovery from some illness is no proof of its permanency," we cordially agree with him. As has been said, "Healing by material means is a never ending process of getting well. . . . It is a hopeless pursuit of a fleeting ignis fatuus." If Christian Science did no more than bring this sort of healing, does any reasonable person think that it would have attracted the thousands who in ever increasing numbers turn to it in their need? They have learned that illness has its origin in wrong thinking, and that Christian Science heals each separate trouble by replacing the wrong with the right. It goes to the root of the disease and scientifically removes its cause. Then a recurrence of that same disease is impossible for that individual.
On page 292 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says: "When the last mortal fault is destroyed, then the final trump will sound which will end the battle of Truth with error and mortality; 'but of that day and hour, knoweth no man.'" Men, women, and children are learning that as God did not make or send sin, disease, or death, it is right to resist these claims, and Christian Science teaches the right way to do so. Mankind has believed somewhat in God's power and good will, but has obeyed and feared another so-called power which sense declares is stronger. To be Christian,—thinking the way Christ Jesus thought, logically and reasonably,—God being infinite and ever present, evil cannot have any real power or existence. We have the power to begin to put away, humbly and persistently, the wrong belief in a power opposed to God. The only way to find the truth of this statement is to put it into practice.
